Telecom and wireless is one of the most vibrant and challenging industries today. With over 1.5 billion active cell phone users , and expected to double by 2010 , different ecosystem partners like device manufactures , network operators , Hi-Tech organizations licensing their IP to infrastructure vendors and application developers that work on different platforms like BREW , Java , Symbian , Windows and Linux , this is an industry that contributes billions of dollars in revenues to the global economy. Qualcomm is one of the leaders in CDMA/WCDMA technology that enables this ecosystem worldwide. With cell phones becoming an integral part of everyone’s life, it has fundamentally changed the way we all live and this is just the tip of the iceberg. It is you who will bring in the next wave of revolution in this industry by your innovative thoughts.
Qualcomm is looking for exciting and innovative ways on how a wireless technology application can be used to solve problems around us and add value to the way we work and live. Your ideas could span any combination of wireless hardware or software technologies but has to be backed by a tangible and existing data point from a trusted source e.g. nearly 40% of the cell phone devices sold in the Indian market have FM Radio capabilities (data backed by appropriate reports from trusted sources should be mentioned) and most listeners use the service between 8 to 11 in the morning and 6 to 9 in the evening when they commute between office and home. Your idea may involve creating a value added service that allows the user to interact innovatively with the FM stations using his service provider like the GSM or the CDMA operator, increase content downloads like songs , ringtones etc. of latest movies and increase ARPU for the service operator . Your idea could also involve Media companies to use this as a platform to reach out to the users thereby creating a huge marketing platform that is more impactful and profitable. This is just an example. You could run wild with focusing on a segment of people or industry, identifying its problem and how you can create a solution using the wireless technologies.
The team is required to submit a zipped/rar file containing their idea summary in a .doc format and details with the following information in a .PPT format (no more than 7 slides).
Rename the .zip/.rar file as “Registration Code.zip/ Registration Code.rar” (example: XYX.zip/XYZ.rar) and email the file to qin@techfest.org.
We will look for the following information in your submission:
What is your idea?
What are the technologies used?
A usage scenario of how it will work – very high level architecture flow.
How will the partners of the wireless ecosystem be involved and benefited?
What is the business potential and competitive landscape and why is your idea better than what’s there in the market?
A proof of concept is nice to have but not mandatory.
Creativity and uniqueness (25 marks)
How well have you thought through the idea and how creative it is. Please note that ideas like an Ad Engine similar to Google are not worthwhile because it is fairly common and will attract negative marks.
Business continuity and feasibility (25 marks)
How well have you thought through the monetization and business model. Practicality of the idea is critical.
Usage scenario and high level architecture (25 marks)
Summary document and PPT (25 marks)
There will be an esteem panel of jury to test your ideas. The jury will comprise of experts from the mobile industry and academia.
