We are going to accept registrations for the Final Round until December 20th. After December 20th, you will need a focused effort in order to develop your ideas in time for the main competition which will be held at Techfest 2008.
Dec 20th 2007: Last day for registration.
Jan 8th 2008: Technical report due by 23:59 IST.
Jan 12th 2008: Top-15 entries selected and invited to exhibit.
Jan 25th -27th 2008: ELIXIR.
Part I - Technical Report
This is going to be the main piece of evidence that the judges will use to decide whether to invite you to present your concept at the final. Please include all results, clear drawings and clear descriptions of parts and components that make your solution a viable solution. The report must be organized in the following manner:
Introduction: Provide the background for why the thing you are working on is important- how many people are affected, what is the impact etc (recommended-2 pages).
Background: What has been done in the past to address this issue (recommended-4 pages).
What are the short-comings or the main problems with these approaches (recommended-2 pages).
Concept generation: Talk about different concepts you have come up with (recommended-4 pages).
Main Idea/Solution: Provide a detailed description showing illustrations, figures, data to backup your statements. Design rationale - you must provide a lot of depth here. Any results obtained or simulations run should be provided with explanation (recommended-8 pages)
Put additional information in the appendix and indicate this in the report.
Note: The report must be typed with double-spacing and the total report size cannot exceed 30 pages.
Part II - Event details
There is a lot of emphasis on seeing who has gone the farthest with their prototype. The most important thing to remember is that a prototype is just meant to showcase the concept and give people an idea of how it would work. For some of the solutions, for example image processing, it would be nice to have the software and be able to run a couple of "tests" on it to demonstrate that it works as described.
Some examples: An emergency network - could show network architecture simulations, and use flash to show what would be possible when the full system is implemented. Websites are easy to demonstrate - pay attention to user interface design.
We expect that finalists will prepare good posters and come up with prototypes.
