Watching the exciting astronaut missions launch into the space, every child wishes “When I grow up, I want to be a part of this exciting vehicle”. Dreams are dreams and they are left unfulfilled. Well, we provide you this opportunity: If you cant be the astronaut, why not make your version of a humanoid astronaut?

Get a chance to learn the high potential and exciting amalgamation of the future technologies – Space, Robotics, Automation and Green Technology.

Dates: 6th and 7th of January, 2012
Duration: 16 hours spread over 2 days
Venue: IIT Bombay

Date for submission of scanned DD has been extended to 28th December. Because of limited accommodation, preference will be given to teams that do not need accommodation

Content Outline

Space Expedition Astronaut workshop provides the fundamentals for the design and development of advanced astronaut humanoid which further can be helpful for many civilian and other applications.

Workshop is 100% practical hands on and is based on real-world system applications and implementation approaches. The detailed content is as follows -

Day 1

Session 1: Fundamental Technology, Need Analysis & Basic Design and understanding through Software
Session 2: Detailed Design & Automation Programming
Session 3: Electronics & Electrical –
  • Part a: Learn Designing of PCB using Software, Stimulations through Software, Soldering Components, Interfacing Motors, Testing PCBs/Controllers, Debugging.
  • Part b: Understanding Sensors, Interfacing with Own Speech Recognition System on Sensors.

  • Day 2

    Session 1: Completion of Robot construction & interfacing
    Session 2: Customized applications and second round of development & debugging/testing
    Session 3:
    • Hybrid Power back-ups installation eg. Traditional batteries, fuel cell, solar panels.
    • Fuel Cell Technology – About PEM Fuel Cell, Types of Fuel Cells, Recent Industry Trends with Economy & Applications.
    • Solar PV Technology – All about solar PV technology, Generations of Solar PVs 1st, 2nd & 3rd , Recent Industrial Trends & Paybacks of PVs with urban & rural penetration status.

    Each Successfully Registered team is expected to bring one laptop with Windows OS (XP or windows 7) installed.

Rules

Eligibility
Participants having a valid ID card of their respective educational institutions are eligible for the workshop.

Team Specifications
Each team can consist of a maximum of 6 members. Participants from different colleges may form a team.

Pre Requisites
This is a basic level workshop and hence there are no pre requisites for it.

Payment Details
The cost of the workshop is Rs 18000/- per team.

Certificate Criterion
All participants should be present in all the sessions. Failing this, no certificate shall be awarded to the participant.

Payment Procedure

  1. Due to limited availability of seats for the workshop, registrations will be done purely on first come first serve basis.
  2. Making a payment for the workshop does NOT guarantee accommodation during the festival.
  3. Cost of the workshop: Rs. 18000/- per team. The maximum number of participants per team is 6.
  4. In order to proceed with your registration you are required to deposit the amount via DD(preferably via Speed - Post).
  5. DD should be made in the name of "Techfest Workshop" payable Mumbai.
  6. After registering, a scanned copy of the DD must be e-mailed to workshops_sea@techfest.org. After sending the scanned copy, a confirmation mail would be sent to the teams. Teams must courier the DD only when they receive the confirmation mail.
    NOTE : If the teams courier the DD without sending the scanned copy first, their DD WONT be accepted.
  7. Scanned copy of the DD should be mailed before 5th December, 2011.
  8. The mail of the scanned copy of the DD should be in following format:

    Subject: Team id_payment (This is to be STRICTLY followed.)
    example – SAE 1001_payment
    Content:
    • DD number
    • Team details of all the members (team member's name, email id, contact number)
    • Accommodation Required – Yes/No (Preference will be given to those that do not require accommodation)
    • Attachment : Scanned copy of the DD.
  9. Courier us the DD at the below mentioned address -

    Your registration will be confirmed once we receive the DD. Your DD should reach us by 10th December, 2011.
  10. The following details should be written on the back side of the DD:
    • Team id
    • Team Leader's name
    • Contact No
    • Workshop Name
NOTE : DD’s that do not have the following details written on the back side will be straightaway rejected.

In the event of requiring accommodation, participants are requested to make the payment at their own RISK. Techfest 2012 does not guarantee accommodation for the workshop. If in case Techfest is able to provide accommodation, details regarding the same will be notified to the participants.
