Introduction



Imagine a scenario in which you have to rig a terrorist's bunker deep within the mountains of Sahara. Imagine those surveillance systems which leak out the information from under your nose. Imagine a flying Object doing this task. Techfest bring to you a unique workshop - Hawk Eye. A fun to build and fun to fly workshop leading to a machine which will be the center of all admiration once airborne.

Dates: 6th,7th and 8th of January, 2012
Duration: 16 hours spread over 2 days and a flying session on third day.

Content Outline

Introduction to Computer vision:
  1. The aim of this workshop is to introduce participants with basics of aero modelling and technique used in making a flying Hawk Eye.
  2. The workshop would be divided into multiple sessions.
  3. First session would consist of theory lessons where topics like Introduction to aero modelling, basics of flight mechanics, common terminology, parts used in Hawk Eye(like gyroscopes), algorithm involved and explanation of structure of model adopted would be covered. It should be noted that these topics would be covered only till the depth required for the workshop.
  4. Second session would be devoted to making of the Hawk Eye. Instructors would be present to help participants whenever required.
  5. Third session would be devoted to help the students fly their Hawk Eye.

Please Note : A takeaway kit will be provided which consist of Hawk Eye made by particpants itself.

Rules

Eligibility
Participants having a valid ID card of their respective educational institutions are eligible for the workshop.

Team Specifications
Each team can consist of a maximum of 6 members. Participants from different colleges may form a team.

Pre Requisites
This is a basic level workshop and hence there are no pre requisites for it.

Payment Details
  1. The cost of the workshop is Rs 21,500 per team (without the radio control remotes).
  2. An additional amount of Rs 3,500 is to be paid by teams opting for radio controllers.
  3. For teams opting the workshop without remote, following is applicable:
    Teams with their own remotes to fly their planes. should have following configurations:
    • The remote should be of MODE II configuration i.e. the throttle stick should be on the left hand side.
    • Remote should be atleast 6 channel, i.e. 6 channels for receiver and 6 channels for transmitter.
    • It should have option of minimum of 2 programmable mix
    • It should be on 2.4ghz spectrum
    Note : During workshop, the trainers will assess participants remote and if it is not found up to instructors satisfaction, it wont be incorporated.
  4. Teams that require FPV system will have to pay an additional Rs. 5000.

Teams with no remote will be provided with remote at the time of workshop for their flying session which will be tuned according to Hawk Eye.
Details of the payment will be mailed to the participants after getting shortlisted for the workshop.

Certificate Criterion
All participants should be present in all the sessions. Failing this, no certificate shall be awarded to the participant.

Payment Procedure

  1. Due to limited availability of seats for the workshop, registrations will be done purely on first come first serve basis.
  2. Making a payment for the workshop does NOT guarantee accommodation during the festival.
  3. Cost of the workshop:
    • Rs. 21500/- per team(without the radio control remotes)
    • Rs. 25000/- per team(with the radio control remotes)
    • Additional Rs 5000/- for teams that require FPV system
    The maximum number of participants per team is 6.
  4. In order to proceed with your registration you are required to deposit the amount via DD(preferably via Speed - Post).
  5. DD should be made in the name of "Techfest Workshop" payable Mumbai.
  6. After registering, a scanned copy of the DD must be e-mailed to workshops_he@techfest.org. After sending the scanned copy, a confirmation mail would be sent to the teams. Teams must courier the DD only when they receive the confirmation mail.
    NOTE : If the teams courier the DD without sending the scanned copy first, their DD WONT be accepted.
  7. Scanned copy of the DD should be mailed before 10th December, 2011.
  8. The mail of the scanned copy of the DD should be in following format:

    Subject: Team id_payment (This is to be STRICTLY followed.)
    example – HE 1001_payment
    Content:
    • DD number
    • Team details of all the members (team member's name, email id, contact number)
    • Accommodation Required – Yes/No (Preference will be given to those that do not require accommodation)
    • Attachment : Scanned copy of the DD.
  9. Courier us the DD at the below mentioned address -

    Your registration will be confirmed once we receive the DD. Your DD should reach us by 15th December, 2011.
  10. The following details should be written on the back side of the DD:
    • Team id
    • Team Leader's name
    • Contact No
    • Workshop Name
NOTE : DD’s that do not have the following details written on the back side will be straightaway rejected.

In the event of requiring accommodation, participants are requested to make the payment at their own RISK. Techfest 2012 does not guarantee accommodation for the workshop. If in case Techfest is able to provide accommodation, details regarding the same will be notified to the participants.
