THE LAST SUPPER INTERACTIVE [LSI] Virtual Reality Application Author: Franz Fischnaller Producer: F.A.B.R.I.CATORS
“All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions.” ‘Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci’ (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer whose genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal.
“The smallest feline is a masterpiece.” The Last Supper (Italian: Il Cenacolo or L'Ultima Cena) is a 15th century mural painting (15 feet × 29 ft) covers the endwall of the dining hall at the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. This masterpiece by ‘Leonardo’ may be considered an outstanding example of the Renaissance synthesis between art and science; in fact, the mathematics of geometric construction was well established and known both to the scientist and artist of the epoch. Computer-based perspective representations are the result of a continually growing body of knowledge, allowing us now to compute accurately the numerical parameters of ancient methods of construction.
The Last Supper Interactive addresses the results of a creative exploration from the intersection between Art, cultural heritage, architecture, mathematics, science, immersive narrative, interactive virtual design and mobile technology. This piece offers a creative experience in the language of Art and digital storytelling through the use of new forms of visual aesthetics in the virtual environment. Emphasis was given to the immersive narrative and virtual representation with attention to the power of illusion and the magic of perspective, color, sound, locative and emotional involvement and cognitive processes in visual perception, thus bringing out the content to its fullest expression.
LSI VR application
The LSI VR application is an immersive interactive meta aesthetic experience into the power of illusion and the magic of perspective inside Leonardo’s Last Supper. The user is able to penetrate the illusion of space in- and outside the painting, inhabit and explore the three dimensional composition from the height of the projection center; look “out” from the painted architecture into the real architecture of the refectory and experience in real time the construction of linear perspective interacting with Alberti’s theorem augmented virtual tool. The user can penetrate and "step in” to the three dimensional composition of the painting and explore it from any perspective (360 degree viewpoint).LSI AR application
LSI Augmented reality mobile application is designed and developed for mobile devices: Smartphone, iPhone, iPad, Android and standalones: desktops. SI mobile Augmented Reality (AR) application is a project-based approach with intersection and juxtaposition of the physical world with the virtual, with focus on innovative perception and visualization in interaction on mobile devices; to experiment with the potential, particularly the advanced computing abilities and connectivity, enriching the user’s experience and encouraging personal exploration.
