rHex Robot is a two day robotics workshop which involves building a RHex - A Simple and Highly Mobile Hexapod Robot.

rHex is a power autonomous, untethered, compliant-legged hexapod robot. RHex has only six actuators — one motor located at each hip — achieving mechanical simplicity that promotes reliable and robust operation in real-world tasks. Empirically stable and highly maneuverable locomotion arises from very simple clock-driven, open-loop gaits.

The main concepts covered in the workshop are:

• Introduction to Robotics and their control
• Legged Robots-Monopods, Bipeds, Quadrupeds
• Overview of Microcontrollers
• Mechanical Design of rHex
• Open loop and closed loop controls
• Introduction to gaits
• Implementing gaits under open loop control
• Introduction to encoders and their need
• Implementing gaits under closed loop control
• Autonomous applications of rHex
• rHex stunts with pseudo gaits

Each Successfully Registered team is expected to bring one laptop with Windows OS (XP or windows 7) installed.

Eligibility
Participants having a valid ID card of their respective educational institutions are eligible for the workshop.

Team Specifications
Each team can consist of a maximum of 4 members. Participants from different colleges may form a team.

Pre Requisites
This is a basic level workshop and hence there are no pre requisites for it.

Payment Details
The cost of the workshop is Rs 8000/- per team.

Certificate Criterion
All participants should be present in all the sessions. Failing this, no certificate shall be awarded to the participant.

1. Due to limited availability of seats for the workshop, registrations will be done purely on first come first serve basis.
2. Making a payment for the workshop does NOT guarantee accommodation during the festival.
3. Cost of the workshop: Rs. 8000/- per team. The maximum number of participants per team is 4.
4. In order to proceed with your registration you are required to deposit the amount via DD(preferably via Speed - Post).
5. DD should be made in the name of "Techfest Workshop" payable Mumbai.
6. After registering, a scanned copy of the DD must be e-mailed to workshops_rx@techfest.org. After sending the scanned copy, a confirmation mail would be sent to the teams. Teams must courier the DD only when they receive the confirmation mail.
   NOTE : If the teams courier the DD without sending the scanned copy first, their DD WONT be accepted.
7. Scanned copy of the DD should be mailed before 25th November, 2011.
8. The mail of the scanned copy of the DD should be in following format:
   
   Subject: Team id_payment (This is to be STRICTLY followed.)
   example – RX 1001_payment
   Content:
   
   • DD number
   • Team details of all the members (team member's name, email id, contact number)
   • Accommodation Required – Yes/No (Preference will be given to those that do not require accommodation)
   • Attachment : Scanned copy of the DD.
9. Courier us the DD at the below mentioned address -

   Your registration will be confirmed once we receive the DD. Your DD should reach us by 10th December, 2011.
10. The following details should be written on the back side of the DD:
    
    • Team id
    • Team Leader's name
    • Contact No
    • Workshop Name

NOTE : DD’s that do not have the following details written on the back side will be straightaway rejected.

In the event of requiring accommodation, participants are requested to make the payment at their own RISK. Techfest 2012 does not guarantee accommodation for the workshop. If in case Techfest is able to provide accommodation, details regarding the same will be notified to the participants.
