Introduction





The cauldron has been lit, the torches have begun their march and a new rivalry is set to take stage in the annals of Asia’s largest science and technology festival. Mixing the theme of holistic development with the vicarious pleasure derived in watching a thrilling contest of machines battling it out by the skin of their teeth, Techfest unveils an initiative of its kind: TechOlympics


Techolympics strives to reach out to every tech-enthusiast from the furthest corners of the country and gather winners in different spheres of technology. Teams would first compete in the TechOlympics: Qualifiers at their respective zone viz. Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Indore, Jaipur, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai and form zonal contingents comprising of 8 teams with 2 each adept at the 4 technology skill sets we are testing. The genres are:

  1. Line Following
  2. Aqua Robotics
  3. Aeromodelling
  4. Coding

The contingent teams would then fight it out for the individual event medals and handsome cash rewards while simultaneously keeping an eye at the coveted TechOlympics Championship Title at the TechOlympics: Finals, which would be held at Techfest, IIT Bombay.

Cash prizes worth INR 4,00,000 to be won.


Structure

The event consists of two levels:
  1. TechOlympics: Qualifiers
  2. TechOlympics: Finals

All the participating teams are to win in the qualifiers to proceed for the finals. Qualifiers will be conducted in six zonal centres across India, which will cover four major genres of technology. The genres are:
  1. Line Following
  2. Aqua Robotics
  3. Aeromodelling
  4. Coding

The top two teams from each segment shall form the TechOlympics Contingent of that respective zone and qualify to take part in the TechOlympics: Finals to be held at Techfest, IIT Bombay.

The winning teams from the zonal centres shall receive cash-prizes, travel allowances for their journey to the event finale at IIT Bombay and certificates of excellence from Techfest, IIT Bombay.

A Wild Card Round would be held prior to the TechOlympics: Finals after the zonal rounds, for participants who couldn't participate or qualify at the zonal qualifiers to give them a last chance to prove their mettle and advance to the finals. For the wild card round the problem statements of all competitions will be same as that of the final rounds. The top two teams from each genre will get a wild card entry into the finale and its contingent shall be called “Rest of India” Contingent. Certificates of excellence shall be provided to the "Rest of India" Contingent members.

There shall be a total of seven contingents who will battle it out to reach the pinnacle of excellence in technology. The top two teams from the final leg of TechOlympics shall a receive a grand award and the members of top three teams shall receive certificates of excellence. Each winning team shall be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals depending on their standings in that competition.

Point System


  1. Each team that receives a GOLD medal in any genre would earn 15 points for its contingent.
  2. Each team that receives a SILVER medal in any genre would earn 10 points for its contingent.
  3. Each team that receives a BRONZE medal in any genre would earn 5 points for its contingent.
  4. The contingent that has the maximum number of points at the end of the event would be declared as the Winning Contingent of TechOlympics.
  5. In case two contingents have same number of points, then the winner would be decided on the basis of number of GOLD medals. If the number of GOLD medals is same, it would be decided on the basis of number of SILVER medals.
