Introduction

Ever fancied the world from the eyes of the robot? A revolution in technology has transformed the nature of work, enhancing technical functions previously difficult or impossible to execute.
From the Da Vinci robots to the PR2, analyze the real world using the eyes of the technology, Techfest presents to you X- Eyebot, a digital image processing workshop using matlabs.

Dates: 6th and 7th of January, 2012
Duration: 16 hours spread over 2 days

Introduction to Computer vision:[1.5 hours]
  1. Discussion on vision sensors
  2. Cameras available
  3. Application of vision in robotics and mechatronic systems.

Digital Image Processing in Matlab:[3.5 hours]
  • Basics of Matlab
  • Image Acquisition
  • Image Processing toolboxes
  • Creating , Resizing Images
  • Multi frame images to movie and vice versa
  • Spatial transformation
  • Sample program needs to be discussed
  • Data Structured based Image Processing
  • Image types in MATLAB
  • Conversion of images from one format to another
  • Image arithmetic
  • Measuring image properties as pixel value, distance etc.

  • Image Acquisition and Processing[2 hours]
  • Data structure of image acquired.
  • Pixels, color spaces, vector indexing and matrix indexing.

  • Image Manipulation in MATLAB [3 hours]
  • Adjusting image intensity.
  • Image histogram equalization, using arithmetic functions to enhance images.
  • Thresholding, Edge Detection, Template matching, distinguishing colors, Shape Detection.
  • Frequency domain filtering and convolution.

  • Integrating image processing code realtime as Embedded System:[2.5 hours]
  • Introduction to AVR Microcontrollers.
  • Concepts of DDRx, PINx & PORTx Registers.
  • Different types of Motors.
  • Intelligence in robots with Micro-controller.
  • Use of macros to make programming easier for complex interfacings.
  • Use of USB/Serial port programmer.
  • Using AVR Dude Burner Software.
  • Working with compilers (WinAVR and Ponyprog).

    Each Successfully Registered team is expected to bring one laptop.

    Please Note : A takeaway kit will be provided.

    Rules

    Eligibility
    Participants having a valid ID card of their respective educational institutions are eligible for the workshop.

    Pre Requisites
    This is a basic level workshop and hence there are no pre requisites for it.

    Payment Details
    The cost of the workshop is Rs 6500/- for a team of 4 members.

    Certificate Criterion
    All participants should be present in all the sessions. Failing this, no certificate shall be awarded to the participant.

    Payment Procedure

    1. Due to limited availability of seats for the workshop, registrations will be done purely on first come first serve basis.
    2. Making a payment for the workshop does NOT guarantee accommodation during the festival.
    3. Cost of the workshop: Rs. 6500/- per team. The maximum number of participants per team is 4.
    4. In order to proceed with your registration you are required to deposit the amount via DD(preferably via Speed - Post).
    5. DD should be made in the name of "Techfest Workshop" payable Mumbai.
    6. After registering, a scanned copy of the DD must be e-mailed to workshops_xe@techfest.org. After sending the scanned copy, a confirmation mail would be sent to the teams. Teams must courier the DD only when they receive the confirmation mail.
      NOTE : If the teams courier the DD without sending the scanned copy first, their DD WONT be accepted.
    7. Scanned copy of the DD should be mailed before 25th November, 2011.
    8. The mail of the scanned copy of the DD should be in following format:

      Subject: Team id_payment (This is to be STRICTLY followed.)
      example – XE 1001_payment
      Content:
      • DD number
      • Team details of all the members (team member's name, email id, contact number)
      • Accommodation Required – Yes/No (Preference will be given to those that do not require accommodation)
      • Attachment : Scanned copy of the DD.
    9. Courier us the DD at the below mentioned address -

      Your registration will be confirmed once we receive the DD. Your DD should reach us by 10th December, 2011.
    10. The following details should be written on the back side of the DD:
      • Team id
      • Team Leader's name
      • Contact No
      • Workshop Name
    NOTE : DD’s that do not have the following details written on the back side will be straightaway rejected.

    In the event of requiring accommodation, participants are requested to make the payment at their own RISK. Techfest 2012 does not guarantee accommodation for the workshop. If in case Techfest is able to provide accommodation, details regarding the same will be notified to the participants.
